Phil’s voice is as big as his ukulele is small, and his love of blues, hokum, jug band and jazz shines through in his intricate picking and driving rhythms. Known as one of the leading lights of the ’3rd wave’ of the ukulele, Phil travels all over the UK performing and leading workshops at festivals, theatres, clubs and events. He has released two EPs, appeared on BBC radio and TV, and shared the stage with some of the world’s finest players.
In his solo show he performs on resonator ukulele, taropatch and banjo, taking his audience on a trip back to the early 20th century that takes in classic songs, forgotten gems, big-voiced blues and fast-picked dance tunes, as well as setting the scene with tales of the composers and original performers. Phil has appeared as a main stage artist at all of the major UK ukulele festivals, and has performed at countless music festivals, clubs, theatres and events. A performer for 30 years, he has an easy-going confidence on even the largest stages.
